Rear Control Arms Installation

The rear suspension of the Toyota FJ Cruiser consists of a series of control arms that help to control the rear wheel and keep it in place during driving. These control arms connect from the vehicles frame to the vehicles axles. At both connections the bolts and nuts need to be torqued to around 96 ft-lbs. Ensuring that the bushing and rubber componenets of the control arms are in good condition will allow for a smooth and quiet ride.

Rear Differential Torque Specs

On the Toyota FJ Cruiser rear axle the U bolts need to be tightened down to 90 ft-lbs. The ring gear bolts get tightened down to 71 ft-lbs. if with an e locker and 92 if without the carrier bearing caps get tightened down to 83 ft-lbs. The differential drain plug should be tightened down to 36 ft-lbs. While the backing plate to the axle get tightened down to 50 ft-lbs.

Rear Shocks Installation

To replace the rear shocks on a Toyota FJ Cruiser you will need to remove two sets of bolts/nuts located at the bottom and top of the shock. Both of these fasteners can be accessed from underneath the vehicle by jacking it up and removing the wheel. To uninstall the old shock simply just remove both of the fasteners and the part will come out. When installing the new part reverse the procedure and tighten up the lower bolt to 72 ft-lbs and then the upper nut to about 15 ft-lbs or until the rubber bushings begin to protrude.

Rear Stabilizer Bar Installation

To replace the rear stabilizer bar on the Toyota FJ Cruiser you will first need to remove the endlinks from the vehicles rear suspension. Each side contains an endlink that has a bolt and a nut. Remove both fasteners on both sides and then remove the bars brackets to remove the entire assembly from the vehicle. When reinstalling the part with either the same or new componenets the frame brackets need to be tightened down to 20 ft-lbs. The endlinks can be tightened down to 30 ft-lbs unless it is the nut. The nuts should be tightened until the rubber bushings begin to protrude out from the frames metal.
